Glanders: a Contribution to Epidemiology

Summary The history of glanders is outlined with special reference to its contribution to the study of epidemiology especially during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Its method of spread and the employment of mallein in its eradication is discussed in some detail. The legislation necessary for its eradication and control in the United Kingdom is described. Résumé L'historique de la maladie est esquissé et l'on montre ce que son étude a apportéà l'élaboration de l'épidèmiologie en particulier durant les dix huitième et dix neuvième siècles. La façon dont la maladie se propage et l'emploi de la mallèine dans son éradication sont étudiés. La législation de la maladie en Grande Bretagne est indiquée.
