The purpose of this paper is to revive an old formula of Newton which is well known to students of statistics and combinatorics, but seems to be unfamiliar to many other people. The formula is easy to use, easy to derive, yet is powerful and broadly applicable. Students who like to see the immediate usefulness of what they are learning find it a most interesting topic. It is hoped that this paper can serve as a basis for a few simple classroom lessons on Newton’s Formula.
