THIS CASE explores international joint ventures as a strategy to create innovative products and lift the quality of design in less‐developed and developing countries. Hazel Clark and Anthony Ip conclude that these complex arrangements present many problems, including those related to scheduling, decision‐making coordination, and the need to address noneconomic agendas. They also find advantages and opportunities—an efficient use of resources, a sensitivity to cultural issues, and the chance for designers to become project leaders.
