BECAUSE IT CROSSES NUMEROUS functional boundaries, a business school's introductory design‐management course is challenged to offer a broad overview that is something more than an inventory of business‐design concerns. For Jack Williamson this means presenting the material in the framework of six key organizational roles—design spotter, design researcher, design advocate, design client, design manager, and design critic—that reveal the vital nature of design issues through the emphasis his approach places on action and decision‐making.
