IN CONCURRENT PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (CPD), the disciplines involved in the many phases of a product's life (from concept to disposal) are represented on the design team from the outset The potential advantages of this type of organization are several, including faster time to market, improved quality, and lower costs. Given these outcomes, providing students with a CPD experience and sensitivity to the related design‐management issues should be an academic priority, but as Jacques Giard and George Lee attest, it's easier said than done.
