THE INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS Society of America has built a tradition of honoring the best US‐designed products. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Society's IDEA program, however, Kristina Goodrich developed a rather special competition. These awards wouldn't be for design excellence—that was a given. Now entrants had to distinguish themselves by the positive effects their products had on the bottom line.
