DO PEOPLE WHO SPEND a good amount of time on the road need a permanent office? Michael Brill says probably not, and then goes on to explain how the office “hotelling” concept he helped refine is not only more efficient use of space but also provides a better quality and more productive work environment. Here he describes how and why the Chicago division of the Ernst & Young financial‐services company recently exploited this approach in its Sears Tower operation, and subsequently recommended hotelling as a model for the entire firm.
