— A report of the 1492 fall of a large stone meteorite near Ensisheim, Alsace, reached the Italian parish priest Sigismondo Tizio, who included this report and a picture of the event in his manuscript History of Siena. The colored picture presents some variations on the woodcut illustration which accompanied Sebastian Brant's printed broadsheets issued immediately after the appearance of the “thunderstone,” while Tizio's report demonstrates how such information travelled quickly along European trade routes.
