One of the features at the 47th Annual Dinner of the Meteoritical Society was the first presentation of the Barringer Award. This award program was established as a memorial to the late Daniel Moreau Barringer who first aggressively advanced the concept that the Crater, which now bears his name, was created by the impact of an astral body on the surface of the earth. It is also a memorial to his unfailing persistance in defending this concept over two decades against the weight of contemporary scientific opinion.
