A short history of the Shirahagi siderite (subclass = O (m)) is given, the peculiar structure of the iron is described and illustrated, and several possible explanations to account for that structure are advanced. It is concluded that the unusual structure was acquired most probably during the flight of the meteorite thru the Earth's atmosphere.
