Four samples of soil from 2 places approximately 2 miles from the Canyon Diablo, Arizona, Meteorite Crater contain no nickel or fragments of oxide, but material resembling volcanic ash is fairly abundant. The pH of the soils is near 8.5. This mild alkalinity would tend to help the irons resist corrosion. One partial analysis is given.
