Extensive historical investigations have shown that the discoverer of the etching figures characteristic of many irony meteorites called himself “Widmanstätten”; accordingly, there is no reason to deviate from this spelling, since the man himself employed it. Indeed, it would be an historical falsification to use any other form, even though the family of Widmanstätten does use today the name “Beckh‐Widmanstetter.”
