A unique, interactive videodisc self‐study program to teach Russian speaking, reading, and listening skills to adults will be completed in 1993 at the new Federal Language Training Laboratory in Washington, D.C. Equivalent to a 120‐hour, teacher‐delivered course, it is designed to produce speaking proficiency at the FS1 level 1. This article discusses the course content, methodology, architecture, role of the student, and development process.
