Based on the author's experience in directing several study programs to France, this article presents and discusses ideas for activities which get students involved, upon arrival abroad, in using their foreign language and in relating to their new cultural environment. The activities suggested here, organized as a “linguistic scavenger hunt,” encourage students to get started on the right foot. The students gain the confidence they need at the beginning of the tour or study program to apply themselves and thus maximally benefit from the experience.
