In order to represent the basic structure and movement of drama (as seen in characters' stage presence and absence) and to move from written text to performative dynamics, a visual method of classroom presentation was needed. In Racinian tragedy, characters can be well represented by figures from playing cards, differentiated by a hierarchy of numerical value, while related (or also separated) by suit. A photographic slide can be made showing character presence in each scene, and the sequence of slides for the entire play presented for classroom explanation and discussion.
