According to the TESOL Guidelines, the evaluation of the trainee's teaching performance is an integral part of the teacher preparation program. A crucial component is self evaluation which ideally should not only help trainees identify strengths and weaknesses of their present teaching performance, but see directions for future improvement as well. This paper discusses steps and problems involved in self evaluation and suggests a procedure and a format based on the analysis of comments by participants completing their practice teaching.
