A two‐year grant from Pew Memorial Trust permitted Beloit College to offer a ten‐day foreign language and culture program in August 1985, for the purpose of encouraging new students to study a foreign language and its culture. Ten languages were taught. The program was scheduled just before the beginning of the 1985–86 academic year, so that students could enroll in a regular language course immediately after the program. At the end of the ten days of instruction, students and senior instructors turned in written evaluations of the program. Over 94 percent of the student participants indicated the program had met their expectations.
