Teaching the elementary curriculum in a bilingual classroom requires the ability to use Spanish technical vocabulary in math, science, art, music, and social studies. The course, Communication Strategies for Bilingual Teachers, gives student teachers in bilingual education the opportunity to learn technical vocabulary and develop teaching skills in Spanish. Science experiments, art projects, and playing musical instruments all figure as classroom activities. A desciption of the rationale and development of the course with sample activities to illustrate the format of the class is the focus of this report.
