Class time is limited, yet language students need every bit of language practice they can get. The article describes eleven activities that can be used to fill short periods of class time that might otherwise be lost. The activities all meet five criteria: (1) they require little or no advance planning, props, or organization; (2) they are easy to explain and learn; (3) they involve the students in focused language activity; (4) they can be begun quickly, engaged in for any short length of time, and ended abruptly; and (5) they are adaptable for use in language classes at almost any level.
