A bstract   This article defines a method for teaching conversational language. It seeks to improve the pronunciation of the student, stresses the use of the target language during class meetings, introduces vocabulary needed to live in a country where the target language is spoken, exposes the student to various customs, and, in an attempt to instill confidence in the student, encourages the active use of all newly acquired language skills. This type of course may be especially useful for students intending to study, travel, or seek employment abroad.
