The study‐abroad trip can contribute vitally to the success of a foreign language program, providing strong motivation for students, cultural awareness for parents and the community, and increased visibility for the foreign language department. By taking advantage of the enthusiasm and excitement generated by a study‐abroad program, teachers are able to develop greater cultural understanding in their students and stimulate foreign language learning; a study‐abroad program may be the essential element in the promotion of foreign language study.
