During an eight‐week period, a small high school French IV class did a Bicentennial research project which resulted in a bilingual pamphlet about Lafayette in Delaware for distribution to all the French and Social Studies Departments in the state. They then prepared a “Lafayette Day” at a local museum, including a slide show, fashion show, and skit. Since the class involved both history and French in a successful educational project for the community, favorable public attention was given to our school and foreign language department. Student enthusiasm, engendered by researching a famous foreigner and his influence on our community, was high, and “Lafayette Day” proved to be the type of exhilarating learning experience which affects a student's attitude.
