In order to provide students with supplementary drills, basically in French grammar, a simple but highly versatile program of computer‐assisted drills called MONIQUE was designed for student use. Written in 2000F Time‐Shared Basic, MONIQUE affords the students a wide variety of optional, conveniently accessible drills on various grammatical and cultural topics. MONIQUE is a relatively inexpensive program to store and is very economical from the point of view of teacher‐use time at the console. The program is personalized for each student and, by virtue of its versatility, can be written in a foreign language or in English, with much variety in the format of the opening dialogue and reward/reprimand rejoinders. These computer‐assisted drills are highly motivational and offer students ungraded minitests. Student response to MONIQUE has been favorable and enthusiastic.
