The textbook of the future will be different from that of the present. It will be flexible and adaptable to various pacings. It will be interest centered. Some materials may be self‐teaching materials to allow for small‐group work and individualized instruction. Culture, values, and interest areas will be featured. Greater emphasis will be placed on people living in or near the United States. Some books will deal with the skill only, and many textbooks will be accompanied by performance objectives and criterion‐referenced tests.
