Euthanasia is a controversial and important issue in West Germany, especially given the Nazis'killing of minorities during World War II. This paper concentrates on the joint issues of suicide and euthanasia in the context of the doctor‐patient relationship. A new evaluation of suicide prevention and euthanasia, especially as they relate to the training of medical students and doctors, is advocated.
