Interior designers' specification of mahogany along with other usage has led to depleted supplies of the wood in this century. This article analyzes the historical usage of mahogany and relates it to the impact of the logging on the environment. Sources and the ecology of mahogany are explained so that designers can understand the negative effects of logging. The prospects of conservation and producing sustained yields of mahogany are explored to present various alternatives for designers. The role of the educator in this issue also is discussed.
