This article explores issues to stimulate discussion about the future of interior design education. Systematic inquiry into international, educational, and design literature revealed recurring issues that the author predicts will have an impact on the interior design profession in the twenty‐first century and, therefore, interior design education. Identification of these issues will allow educators to help prepare interior designers who will lead the profession in the future. These issues include professional identity, liberal arts foundation, interdisciplinary elements, international concerns, technology integration, and scholarship activities.
