A survey of ASID members was conducted in 1985 to investigate attitudes toward and usage of computers in the interior design field. A sample of 169 professional members was used for the analyses. The results indicate that designers with computer experience are more positive toward them than designers with no computer experience. Nonresidential designers also express more positive opinions than residential designers perhaps in part because they use computers more in their practice. Forty percent of the ASID designers were using computers; most of these were using microcomputers with IBM‐PC being the most common brand. A total of 62% either have or are seriously considering buying a computer. Computers were used more for business and management than for design production.
