Dental undergraduates were screened for visual defects by orthoptists at a general hospital associated with their dental school. Defects in visual acuity, squints, limitations of convergence and defective stereopsis were found. Four were deemed to require the services of an optician to improve their visual acuity. Treatment is available for other students with squints, limitations of convergence and defective stereopsis, should this become necessary. The value of visual screening for dental undergraduates is discussed.
