A bstract — The frequency distribution of children aged seven to twelve years according to their DIMF and DI scores was determined in respect of 1977 and 1982. These children were examined by the school dental service in each State and Territory. The proportion of children with no DIMF teeth increased by 75 per cent, and the greatest decline in frequency distributions between 1977 and 1982 occurred in the groups with high mean DIMF indices. The distributions based on DIMF scores were notable for their extreme unevenness with separate peaks at scores of zero and four.
