A bstract — An investigation into aspects of oral health was conducted with a survey of 1971 Tasmanian school children, aged 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 years, living in fluoridated and non‐fluoridated areas. Children were classified into four groups according to their experience of systemic fluoride. Utilization of dental services for the study population was high, and a majority of the subjects had received topical fluoride applications. The prevalence of all enamel opacities and hypoplasias was fairly evenly distributed across the four fluoride experience groups but, with regard to unacceptable opacities, the mouth prevalence decreased with increasing fluoride exposure. The results of the dental caries investigation revealed highly significant reductions to caries experience with increasing exposure to fluoride.
