A bstract — The reproducibility and reliability of selected radiographic techniques for the assessment of temporomandibular joint morphology and pathology were investigated in a sample of skulls demonstrating a range of normal and abnormal joint changes. Most methods provided acceptable information about pathological changes of the fossa and condyle. Joint morphology was more difficult to assess, however, with only some methods providing useful information for more than two‐thirds of subjects, emphasizing the need to interpret temporomandibular joint radiographs with great care.
