A bstract — Panoramic radiographs from a group of one hundred patients of Chinese or Indo‐Chinese origin and one hundred patients of Caucasian origin were examined to assess whether there was a difference in the number of osteosclerotic areas in the mandibles of one group compared with the other. Patients of Chinese or Indo‐Chinese origin showed a significantly larger number of areas. The differential diagnosis of radiopaque areas is discussed. Attention is drawn to the need to be aware of the high incidence of osteosclerotic areas in the Indo‐Chinese population during differential diagnosis of radiopaque lesions.
