A bstract — This study offers an empirical evaluation of some of the attitudes of compliant and non‐compliant dental patients using the rationale of the Becker Health Belief Model. In the sample of 127 patients from the one practice investigated, the only difference established between those who attend regularly for re‐examination and those who do not was in the strength of their attitudes to the dentist/patient relationship and the inconvenience of attending for treatment.
