A bstract — Particular influences that now affect the provision of basic restorative services within the community are: (i) diminishing rampant caries in young mouths, (ii) increasing problems related to heavily‐restored adult dentitions, (iii) increasing professional awareness of iatrogenic hazards, and (iv) increasing demand for relatively simple, inexpensive reconstructions. The influence of preventive measures, new and improved materials are also shown to be of great advantage to the patient.
