A bstract Some effects of the addition of a diatomite product to a silica bonded investment were investigated. The expansion of moulds made from the diatomite product was compared with that of gypsum bonded cristobalite investment moulds. Attention is drawn to the possible use of diatomite as a source of cristobalite for investments.
