The purpose of this paper is to give a banking industry perspective on three important policy issues facing Australia's banks. These are the proposal for a deposit insurance scheme, the regulation of the credit card interchange fee and the general issue of bank fees. For each issue, the paper gives relevant details, outlines the industry's perspective and proposes an alternative, pro‐competitive means of addressing the identified problems.
