The role of economist in practical matters has generally little to do with economic theory. What they contribute is common‐sense judgment based on a fairly objective and complete appreciation of the facts. It is for appreciation of the facts that the economists are required; otherwise their place might almost as well be filled by classical scholars or natural scientists.
