At Pentecost 1993, the mission boards of two (reformed) churches in the Netherlands published a special leaflet to illustrate their work in order to highlight the missionary offering of that holy day. The illustration was taken from the work that was done in relation to people of other faiths. A special emphasis was given to the work of dialogue. As was seen by several reactions, the information disturbed some parishioners. Critical questions were asked concerning the vision of mission in relation to witnessing to people of other faiths. The Board for Mission of the Netherlands Reformed church held a series of discussions with representatives of several parishes and groups in the church and finally decided to produce a document concerning the relationship between witness and dialogue. The document that follows was sent to the General Synod of that church. The Synod discussed the document on June 16, 1995 and took the decisions as reported at the end of this document.
