Two species of Compositae from Ethiopia are described as new, viz. Senecio leptopterus and Vernonia friisii. Comparisons were also made with morphologically similar species found in other parts of Africa. The new combination Sphaeranthus ramosus is made and a detailed description of the species is provided. Arctotis pygmaea and Anthemis semiensis are placed as synonyms of Haplocarpha rueppellii and Anthemis tigrensis , respectively.
