Morphology and distribution of Aspicilia parasitica B. de Lesd., a much neglected species, are discussed. Since the holotype has been lost, a lectotype was selected. Examination of the latter and other specimens showed that the diagnostic characters are quite constant. All of known stations of A. parasitica are in the central‐eastem Mediterranean area and include Italy, Algeria, Greece and Bulgaria.
