Chlorodesmos hispidus, a morphological expression of Synura spinosa (Synurophyceae)

Colonies identical to Chlorodesmos hispidus were found in several places in Portugal and examined in the light and scanning electron microscopes. The ultrastructure of the scales, previously unknown, was found to be identical to the scales of Synura spinosa . Consideration of the information available leads us to consider Chlorodesmos as a synonym of Synura .
