A new genus, Larsenaikia , (tribe Gardenieae, sensu stricto) is described on material from Queensland and the Northern Territory for three endemic Australian species of Gardenia , recently transferred to Kailarsenia . Description and affinities of the new genus and Kailarsenia , as well as distribution map and illustrations are given. Keys to the species of both Larsenaikia and Kailarsenia are provided. Larsenaikia has three species confined to tropical Australia; Kailarsenia with six to seven species has a wider distribution in tropical Asia.
