A macromorphological study of certain ploidy levels within the Ornithogalum umbellatum complex was carried out in France. The data matrix was treated by multivariate analyses. Certain ploidy levels show clear morphological differenciation in relation to taxon provenance. In the Loire Valley, there is a very strong correlation between ploidy level of individual plants and a specific morph. The results are discussed from a systematic and evolutionary point of view within the framework of polyploid complexes to which O. umbellatum belongs.
