The range of this species, previously recorded from only three collections from Brazil and Peru, is extended to Ecuador. The new collection differs from those previously described in having apetalous flowers, indehiscent anthers, glands on the young developing stems and leaves, and hydathodes at the base of young leaf pinnae. Despite these differences, this new collection is considered to belong to M. mattogrossense Hoehne, and an amended description and illustrations are provided.
