During a period of travel in the People's Republic of China in November 1986, chrysophyte samples were obtained from 10 different localities (eutrophic ponds) at Nanjing, Yangzhow and Wuhan. A sample from Harbin in Manchuria was later included. Electron microscopical examination of the samples showed the presence of 36 taxa of the genera Chrysosphaerella, Spiniferomonas, Paraphysomonas, Mallomo‐nas , and Synura , all of which are new to China. Most of the species are cosmopolitan in distribution, almost all have also been found in Japan.
