Ontogeny of elastoviscin in the Orchidaceae

The ontogeny of elastoviscin in the Orchidaceae was investigated with the light, transmission electron and scanning electron microscope. This substance is composed of unsaturated lipids and most probably a product of the ground cytoplasm of the tapetal cells. Different forms of elastoviscin are described. Further investigations are needed to determine whether it is homologous to pollenkitt.
