A biometrical study of the type specimens of Cortinarius orellanoides Henry and C. speciosissimus Kühn. & Romagn. (Agaricales), together with some additional material, was carried out. The results indicate that the spores of the two taxa are identical. Since the taxa also macroscopically are indistinguishable, they are proposed as con‐specific. Consequently, the name C. orellanoides will take priority over C. speciosissimus .
