The new genus Hysteronaevia belongs to the Hysteropezizella–complex and differs from Hysteropezizella v. Höhn., Hysterostegiella v. Hohn. and Merostictis Clem, by I– asci, and from Naeviella (Rehm) Clem, by relatively large, mostly hyaline spores without germ–pore. Eleven species, saprophytes on Cyperaceae, Juncaceae and Poaceae, are so far referred to it, five of them described as new and one raised to specific rank. Four names are placed in synonymy: Eupropolella celata Graddon as conspecific with H. olivacea as well as Peziza foecunda Phill., Hysterostegiella lap–ponica Def. and Hysteropezizella hebridensis Graddon with H. scirpina.
