Plantago ser. Brasilienses belongs to subgen. Psyllium (Juss.) Harms sect. Gnaphaloides Barn., and is found in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and S Brazil. Three species are recognized: P. brasiliensis Sims, P. densa (Pilger) Rahn (stat. nov.), and P. tandilensis (Pilger) Rahn (stat. nov.). Plantago johnstoni Pilger is transferred to P. ser. Sericeae , and P. sericea Ruiz & Pav. ssp. araucana Rahn belonging to that series is described as a new subspecies. Statistical data have been used in key and descriptions.
